This new $6.0 million facility will protect valuable books and other archives of the Johns Hopkins University in a constant 50° F, 30% relative humidity environment. The 14,500 SF storage module is connected to a 7,500 SF processing area (with normal temperature and humidity conditions) for cleaning, sorting, and labeling incoming materials. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2005.
MEC was responsible for mechanical, electrical, and fire protection design. HVAC systems include a custom DX package unit with dessicant wheel dehumidification and natural gas heat; a field fabricated air-handler that provides stringent filtration for a variety of contaminants, and a DX package rooftop unit for the processing area. Filters include two types of charcoal filter banks, and 30%/95% efficient cartridge filters.
